  • A: I see. Well … I’ve got to go now. See you.
  • B: Yes, see you … bye!
  • A: Goodbye.

General to Specific Speaking Strategy

‘General’ is a big topic which includes many things, for example, music. We use ‘especially’ when we want to refer to something more specific, such as Taiwanese Pop Music. We also can use ‘in particular’ to talkabout something specific, not general.

I really like to eat (general), but especially (specific)

In partucular, I enjoy (specific flavors)

Even thougn/For instance/For example … (describe specific ingredients or use adjective)

General-Specific Practice Questions

  • What kind of music do you like?
  • Which place in the world would you most like to visit?
  • What kind of movies do you like to watch?
  • Do you like fruits and vegetables

P.R.E.P-Point Reason Example Point

  • Point: 1 sentence about the topic, “I like cats.”
  • Reason: Next, provide a reason why your point is true. “I like cats because they are very independent pets, when you go on vacation you can leave a cat at home, and it will be okay.”
  • Example: Support your reason with 1-2 examples, such as: “Last year I flew to Barbados for a week, and my cat stayed home alone. When I got back, the house was not destroyed and my cat was patiently waiting for me.”
  • Point: Finally, restate your original point in new words. “So, as you can see from my example, a cat is a fun and low-maintenance pet, and that’s why I like them.”
